The back cover blurb is an important marketing tool. It appears on the back of your book and in your book’s Amazon description, among other places.
Your back cover blurb should be a maximum of 300 words, but aim for 175–225 words.
When writing your blurb, begin by introducing the central conflict. Emphasize the emotional stakes and motivations of your characters. Ask yourself these big questions:
- Goal: What does my protagonist want?
- Obstacles: What is standing in the way?
- Stakes: What is the worst-case scenario if they fail?
End your blurb by emphasizing the stakes, both for the protagonist and the broader community.
